[edit] Backstory

Part One: The Prodigies.

Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown...

Kalyu Kamenev Slider was born Reina Sophie Banneker, to mother Claire Banneker and father Lawrence Banneker. Born and raised in Snowpoint in a middle-class family with Lawrence mostly away from home on business. It wasn't until Reina was aged six that both she and her mother discovered he was not in the stock brokering business he claimed to be; but rather that he was a Deacon for Snowpoint base and was often off on the war. This revelation caused much dissension in the household, but everything continued normally for the next five years. Reina led a quiet, happy life. It wasn't until middle school that her career in Legend began. With a bred intelligence acquired from her father, Reina had outstanding marks in school. Continually getting in the top five percent of her class, along with a diligence that caused her to be praised by nearly all teachers she was taught by. This eventually brought the attention of the newly-founded Legend Youth Corp(LYC) and to the joy of her father and the dissatisfaction of her mother, she moved from the normal hierarchy of schooling and into this new institution. This is where she first met Sarah, Murrey, and the one who would cause the most change in her life; Kalue.

Part Two: Unforeseen Foresight.

Waiting for someone or something to show you the way...

The first two months of Reina's stay at the LYC came quickly, and overall were bland; the aptitude tests, which covered many things including intelligence, charisma, and physical ability, had placed her in a combat medicae position. Essential for the team, but she always knew she still wasn't the smartest of them. Reina was soon acquainted with Sarah during her academic classes. It was a quick friendship, but still rather one-sided; Reina herself knew very few people, and thus most of her attention was towards Sarah. Reina received her first Pokemon companion, Exorum, near the end of her fourth month. A gift from a young bishop named Daniel, but he isn't important. It wasn't until the end of her first year that she met Kalue. Reina got into a fight with another girl from her age group over some trivial ordeal. Kalue was pushed on by a bishop to break up the fight and practice his leadership training. He did so, successfully, and took Reina privately aside to discipline her. This is where much of Reina's pacifist and collectivist ideals originated. After he was done, though, he simply talked to her as an equal. Kalue, himself, had only recently learned of his surprising ability of charisma and aptitude to lead. Reina had her first young, naïve, love. Kalue, however, knew any sort of relationship would have unwanted concerns; he kept it platonic. The LYC continued as normal. Nothing particularly out of the ordinary happened. Kalue dealt with the uncommon mission and, attempted as he could, to keep peace among the kids. He managed better than the bishops, as he had the leverage of equal terms and used that to his advantage. Charisma tended to be more useful in many situations than physical or mental prowess. Reina and Sarah continued their friendship, and despite the unfriendly conditions of the LYC as a whole, they managed as best they could. Several weeks before the beginning of Reina's deep spiral into depression, a red-enveloped letter arrived at her mother's home. It gave extremely vague details of Lawrence's death, but was enough that it happened, and was likely at the hands of a Heroic soldier(most likely a lie for propaganda purposes). Claire visited Reina that day, and forced herself to tell her daughter what had happened; there was no point in keeping it hidden. This simply set Reina's hopes to steel; she would save people through medicae and surgery. She stayed at the LYC, and confided to Kalue. They both attended the funeral several days later.

Part Three: Why Wouldn't You Kiss Me?

The time has come, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say...

The end of Reina's early Legend career was close. Not one of them knew it, and Reina herself had a renewed sense of faith in herself and her team. Her team consisted of Herself, Kalue, and another boy who wasn't important. Most of the time, they had substitutes in the third spot. Sarah was one. They went on the occasional practice mission, something to prepare them for what could come in the years following graduation. Everyone believed the war would end before any of these prodigies graduated anyway, and there would be no problems. A routine mission, which Sarah had been assigned to, turned into tragedy. Kalue had gone missing and was assumed dead after an unseen complication. This was both a heavy hit to Reina and the LYC. Despite Kalue's attempts to keep the Reina's relationship with himself estranged, it still hurt Reina badly. This, combined with her father's death just a few short weeks before, was a bit too much on her psyche. And, with no one significant enough to lean on, she stopped caring about everything. It was immediately visible by anyone close to her. This was a problem no medication or remedy could heal. Reina abandoned her coursework, and was never properly assigned to a new team; as she could not work with anyone properly, she was now a liability. And one day, she packed her few possessions, said goodbye to Sarah, and left without notice.

Part Four: The World's Yours To Do What You Want With, Kid.

Don't give me that do-goody good bullshit...

Reina, at this point, took up a pseudonym to avoid being pulled back with Legend. To put behind her old past, and start a new future. The name wasn't incredibly original. Kalyu, a play on Kalue; Kamenev, believed to be her father's middle or given surname which he changed to fit in; and Slider which was just a name. Reina- Now Kalyu- traveled south, avoiding Legend entirely on her travels. For nearly 10 years she traveled abroad, collecting a team of birds; she had planned to major in ornithology before being recommended to the LYC. Despite being incredibly young she followed the paths of many of the ancient Pokemon trainers who were now legends in the eyes of many. Her travels brought her more experience than ten years of the Youth would have; she, by the end, had traveled to nearly every place in Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh. Kalyu met many people, of all variety; she spoke with now-Valiants, and despite her calm grudge spoke in an even tone. She met a Sinister who she had a brief affair with. He taught her a prime socialist ideal, that society isn't made to control us; that we are made to control society. Kalyu might have even been recruited to Sinister had he not screwed up and gotten himself arrested. Kalyu had to flee, and left for a new city. The thought of Kalue surviving always lingered in the back of her mind, despite her knowing it wasn't true and there was nothing she could do. She still blamed herself for everything.

Part Five: The Lost and Damned.

And then one day you find, ten years have got behind you...

Kalyu had never been a religious person. Neither were her parents. They had simpler beliefs, that Arceus and its legendaries existed but that they had no real powers over the human planes. Thus, worship was only used to keep favor with the more pious of Legend officials. Scripture all seemed so silly for Kalyu; none of it had any real power, so why should they study it? History had better lessons, and scripture was simply glorified selections of history. Her self-esteem and self-respect died with Kalue. She still had the ideals that Legend had ingrained in her; Valiant was too weak to bring about any real order, and Sinister was too cowardly. Legend was the last real hope for the world. Continued attempts to find a man like Kalue failed, repeatedly, and many affairs ended on a lonely note. Many of them were simply for shelter or supplies, as she was forced to do; it wasn't the best life, but she got along. It'd been almost ten years since she left the LYC, she had had no reason to try and contact any of her old friends.

The frog in the well was happy.

Because he wasn't interested in the outside world.

The frog in the well was happy.

Because he didn't have anything to do with the outside world.

And you were happy, too.

Because you didn't know what happened outside the well.

Common expression for Kalyu. These days everything's a joke.

[edit] Pokemon

[edit] Legend

Exorum - Reina's second Pokemon, a Ninetales, given to her by the LYC for safety purposes and training exercises. While a vulpix, she was very energetic and playful, at some point, however, she evolved and changed to a sluggish, lax, apathetic Ninetales who sleeps more than she's actually awake. Will follow orders without question, even if it interrupts her nap.

Inquisitor // Zharahesh / Dzhuvili of Veilstone / Delacroix Beatrice // - An Espeon found by Reina during her term at the LYC, in an engineering area. Rescued and cared for her, and it decided to pledge itself to her indefinitely. Has amazing psionic powers, and specializes in the control of the human mind. Can use these powers to both soothe, and suggest.

Zapni - The god, Zapdos, caught by Horse and handed down. A symbol of her power as Electric Cardinal and of her influence in Legend.

Augury, Forerunner, Presage, and Auspice - Four Rotom found in a weapons cache during the excavation of Sunyshore. Were first pledged to Cardinal Tundeh as relics of a long-past war, and are bound to obey whoever owns the electric cardinal's badge. Is a floating oven with hands, and a floating fan with hands, and two formless Rotom, respectively.

Nidhoggr and Einherjer - Another pair of Pokemon pledged to Kalyu by Xana. Einherjer, the Jolteon, is overly serious and focuses on the solution rather than the problem. Nidhoggr is a bit flighty, likes to relax, take it easy. She's also rather curious.

Sovereign - A Salamence mainly for transportation. Hates Ink because she tends to talk too much in his head and it annoys him.

[edit] Neutral

Ace - A Pidgeot caught near Blackthorn as a Pidgey. Loyal to death.

Blaze - A Swellow Kalyu caught years back during her travels. Silly and unpredictable.

Mobius - Reina's first Pokemon, caught as a Starly at the Acuity lakefront. Moody and unresponsive.

Misha - A Skarmory caught south of Blackthorn. Serious in all mannerisms.

Garuda - A Scyther. Has as little to say as this sentence.

Pixy - A Masquerain who likes to sit in trees.

Two Natu - Teleportan.

Four Electrode - Escapan.
